August 23, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

XP plc (UK) has joined forces with a new company formed by the merger of Zicon Electronics Ltd. (UK) and Power Generics, (UK) two power supply companies.

The new company, named XP Electronics, (UK) combines the manufacturing flexibility of Zicon, with the power system design capabilities of Power Generics, and it will capitalize on XP's proven brand, marketing, customer service and sales experience.

Zicon founder MD John Shanley stated, "We offer a service as much as a product, and can deliver products on a very short leadtime."

Bob Lish, founder of Power Generics, added, "We have specialized in full custom power designs, and have produced supplies from 0.5W to 5kW and from 1V to 5kV".

XP Chairman James Peters commented, "For XP, it means that for the first time we will be able to offer our customers access to our own full custom-design and manufacturing facility here in the UK. It is a continuation of our virtual manufacturing philosophy, which means that although we do not own any manufacturing sites, we have strong, formalized links with world-class manufacturing partners".
