July 25, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

O2Micro International Ltd. (George Town, Grand Cayman), a supplier of power management and security ICs to mobile computer and communications manufacturers, received 20 claims under United States patent number 6,906,497 for its Enabling Circuit for avoiding Negative Voltage Transients; a continuation of the invention issued June 2004 under United States patent number 6,756,769.

The invention is designed to protect a battery charger controller IC from damage in a portable electronic device, such as notebook computer, cell phone, personal digital assistant, portable media player, and MP3 player applications. It also simplifies system implementation by avoiding negative voltage spikes on the controller terminals.

"This patent award is a strong addition to O2Micro's portfolio of core power management inventions and associated system level claims, bringing reduced design time and production costs to customers," commented O2Micro Intelligent Power Business Vice President Alex Hartular.
