IXYS Joins Climate Savers Computing Initiative Energy Savings Program

January 05, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

IXYS Corp. announced that it has joined the Climate Savers Computing Initiative at the Affiliate level as part of its commitment to advance the development of electronic products with increased energy efficiency.

"Power conversion efficiency has been our core focus since the company started in 1983. We began with power semiconductors that have been key in enabling products for saving energy. Today, we offer a wider range of products for power systems, transportation and wind and solar based electricity generation," commented IXYS CEO Dr. Nathan Zommer. "We believe in the long-term need for green technologies as both a supplier and as an end-user. We look forward to supporting and promoting the Initiative in its future endeavors."

The Climate Savers Computing Initiative is described as a nonprofit group of eco-conscious consumers, businesses and conservation organizations dedicated to improving the power efficiency and reducing the energy consumption of computers and servers. The Initiative was started earlier this year by Google and Intel. By producing and purchasing power efficient products, the Initiative expects to achieve a 50% reduction in power consumption by computers by 2010.
