May 21, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Fuel Cell Technologies Corp. (FCT, Kingston, ON) announced that its 5kW fuel cell prototype has begun testing and continues to operate to the exacting expectations of the company, generating more than a megawatt-hour of electricity. The solid-oxide fuel cell system is operating fully on natural gas at over 40 percent electrical efficiency and with minimal supervision.

John Stannard, president and CEO of FCT, stated, "We are pleased with the prototype's performance. Things are going according to plan. We reached this milestone because of the effort of two dedicated teams: the Siemens Westinghouse Power Corp. team and our FCT team."
