LTC Offers LTC3445 xScale Microprocessor Power Supply

December 19, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Linear Technology Corp. (LTC, Milpitas, CA) announced its LTC3445 xScale microprocessor power supply in a 4 mm x 4 mm QFN package, which contains a high-efficiency, monolithic, synchronous, current-mode buck regulator; two LDO regulators; a PowerPath™ controller; and an I2C interface in a single QFN package. Its 2.5 V to 5.5 V input-voltage range makes the LTC3445 suitable for single lithium-ion, battery-powered applications.

The synchronous buck regulator can deliver up to 600 mA of output current with efficiencies of up to 93%. The user can select either a constant (1.5 MHz) or a spread spectrum switching frequency. For processor core voltages, the onboard I2C interface controls a six-bit, programmable, dynamically adjustable, output-voltage range of 0.85 V to 1.55 V, and a slew rate control. The LTC3445 also contains two LDO voltage regulators to power additional xScale voltages. Both LDO output voltages are programmable with external resistors and can deliver up to 50 mA of output current.

The LTC3445 is packaged in a 4 mm x 4 mm QFN-24, and is available now from stock. Pricing starts at $2.45 each for 1,000-piece quantities.
