Emerson Introduces Bulk Front End Power Supplies with Medical & Industrial Safety Approvals

April 08, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Emerson Network Power introduced what it claims is one of the industry’s lowest cost 600W ac-dc power supplies, the LCM600Q. Available now at $125 per unit in production quantities, the LCM600Q has an MTBF of greater than 500,000 hours under normal operating conditions. A wide array of safety approvals make the LCM600Q well suited for use in a variety of applications in industrial, medical, process and digital signage/display markets.

Emerson Network Power’s 24V LCM600Q is rated for 600W of adjustable output power at 25A, with an output power density of 7.41W per cubic inch. Like other power supplies from Emerson Network Power, the LCM600Q delivers operating efficiency of approximately 88% typical at full load. The power supply comes equipped with variable speed "smart" fans supported by integrated controls to enhance reliability and achieve even higher levels of energy efficiency.

The power supply accepts a wide input voltage range of 85 to 264Vac with no minimum load requirement and is equipped with active Power Factor Correction (PFC) rated at 0.99 typical to minimize input harmonic current distortion. It features active ac inrush controls-limiting inrush current at power-on to 25A-and is protected against overvoltage conditions up to 145%. The power supply can be equipped with an optional 5V auxiliary output for powering standby circuitry when minimizing unplanned downtime and enhancing serviceability are critical. An ORing FET option is also available.

The LCM600Q supports a wide operating temperature range of minus 40 to plus 70°C, providing design flexibility for applications in a variety of demanding environments. It is backed by a best-in-class set of safety approvals. Safety certificates include UL (60950-1, 508/1598/1433, and 60601-1); CSA (60950-1); VDE (60950-1 and 60601-1); China (CCC); and CB Scheme international certification. The power supply meets EMI Class B and EN61000 standards for conducted noise and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives.
