Allegro MicroSystems Announces New Dual Output Regulator

August 25, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. adds a new dual output regulator IC to their existing portfolio of regulators. This new device combines a 2% constant on-time buck regulator and a 2% linear regulator to provide dual output voltages such as those required by microcontroller or DSP-based applications. Allegro’s A4402 is targeted at the industrial, consumer and office automation markets.

This new switching regulator includes an adjustable soft-start timer, and is capable of operating at frequencies up to 2 MHz, allowing the system designer the opportunity to select low value inductors and capacitors. Protection features include under-voltage lockout and thermal shutdown. In case of a shorted load, each regulator features overcurrent protection. The A4402 also features a watchdog timer to monitor the state of a microcontroller/DSP, and a power-on reset function with adjustable delay, as a signal to reset the microcontroller/DSP.

Allegro’s A4402 is provided in a 16-pin TSSOP package, with exposed pad for enhanced thermal dissipation. It is lead (Pb) free, with 100% matte tin leadframe plating. It is priced at $1.23 in quantities of 1,000 and has a 12-week typical lead-time to market.
