SolarPrint and Intel Demo Energy Harvesting Device

May 19, 2013 by Jeff Shepard

SolarPrint Ltd. will showcase light-energy harvesting wireless sensors at Open Innovation 2.0. On May 20th and 21st the Open Innovation 2.0 conference and technology showcase will be held at Dublin Castle and Dublin's Mansion House. At the event SolarPrint Ltd and Intel Labs Europe will jointly demonstrate a light-energy harvesting multi sensing device for COâ‚‚ and temperature control within buildings.

The aim of the research collaboration between SolarPrint and Intel's Europe Energy and Sustainability Lab is to demonstrate the integration of self-powered wireless sensors as part of a holistic approach to resource efficiency within the built environment. Research into energy harvesting-powered sensors aligns to Intel lab’s wider Sustainable Connected cities initiative. Intel labs integrated SolarPrint’s high performance light energy harvesters to develop a working prototype compatible with their enLive data hub.

“There is a real need for low cost, easy to install multi sensor solutions like an energy harvesting CO₂ and Temperature sensors. One of the greatest needs exists in public buildings and classrooms where high occupancy ratios can result in increased or even dangerous levels CO₂. A plug and play solution powered by SolarPrint could provide schools and other buildings with a low cost solution to effectively monitor and control their CO₂ and temperature levels” explains Roy Horgan, SolarPrint’s Director of Business Development.

This Open Innovation 2.0 event was organized by the European Commission, Open Innovation Strategy and Policy Group, Intel Labs Europe, Dublin City Council and Trinity College Dublin. Over 300 delegates from around the world are expected to descend on Dublin for the conference. It will showcase interaction with European companies, academia and governments and will show how joint initiatives can advance the development of society and environmental sustainability. The aim of the conference is to initiate and develop a plat form for a sustainable economy and society development.

The event will promote a more open and collaborative approach to how society and the economy innovates. Also representing SolarPrint at the event will be Dr. Mazhar Bari who will be participating in a panel discussion on High Expectation and Experimental Entrepreneurship as part of the conference on Sustainable Economy & Society in Dublin Castle.
