October 07, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

REMEC Inc. (San Diego, CA) announced that it has been selected to build initial quantities of an integrated Wideband Code-Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) combined Multi-Carrier Power Amplifier (MCPA) transceiver module for WCDMA Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) basestations.

"As we have long predicted, the future of cost reductions and performance enhancements for wireless basestations lies in an integrated solution," said Ron Ragland, REMEC's chairman and CEO. "REMEC has a legacy of leadership in developing and manufacturing complex integrated microwave functionalities into an optimized, cost-effective subsystem. This has been achieved in a number of markets. In our view, this first-generation integrated subsystem represents the most advanced requirement from the mobile industry to date for integrating the wireless basestation."
