PowerGenix Selects Partner for Rechargeable NiZn Batteries

February 02, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

PowerGenix Corp. (San Diego, CA), a developer of rechargeable nickel-zinc (NiZn) batteries, announced that it has entered into an agreement with Shenzhen Grepow Battery Co. Ltd. (Shenzhen City, China) for high-volume production and Asian distribution of its NiZn batteries. PowerGenix's NiZn rechargeable battery technology is a suitable replacement in high-power nickel-cadmium (NiCd) and nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) applications, including cordless power tools, military applications and uninterruptible power supplies.

Shenzhen Grepow Battery is a leading producer of NiMH batteries. With a production capacity of 45 million cells per year, 900 employees and a fully staffed research and development team, the ISO 9001-certified manufacturer is well suited to transition PowerGenix’s rechargeable NiZn batteries from production in San Diego into high-volume production for worldwide distribution.

"From what we learned after several of the world’s largest and most demanding consumers of NiCd batteries sampled our new NiZn batteries, it became very clear to us that we needed to select a manufacturing partner that could respond to the unique demands of the cordless power tool market. This made the selection of our manufacturing partner a very critical decision," stated PowerGenix Chief Executive Officer Dan Squiller. "As we ramp our production, Grepow’s technical expertise, innovative manufacturing techniques and commitment to NiZn chemistry will help ensure we meet existing and evolving needs of the marketplace."
