Ericsson Buys $310.0 Million of Telecom Products from Taiwan

December 18, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson (Sweden) reports that it will buy at least $310.75 million of telecommunications products from Taiwan this year.

Local industry experts believe that Taiwan's telecom makers have made major progress in upstream, midstream and downstream products, suggesting that Taiwan's telecom industry is growing. Also, Taiwan's makers have moved into the production of telecom components and mobile phones. Many of them have landed orders from Motorola, Philips and Ericsson.

As the global PC market approaches saturation, Taiwan's leading information-technology makers, including Acer Group; Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.; Quanta Computer Inc.; DBTel Inc. and Inventec Group, have branched into the production of telecom devices.
