Astris Energi Inc. (Mississauga, ON) announced that its European subsidiary, ASTRIS s.r.o. (Benesov, Czech Republic), has been awarded a KC$5.0 million grant from the government of the Czech Republic, which will fund a cooperative effort between ASTRIS and the Academy of Science in the Czech Republic to enhance the advantages in alkaline fuel cell technology. Astris Energi will also contribute to the program.

The focus of the new development will be the third-generation Astris alkaline fuel cell stack, the MC250, which will become a key building block in fuel cell systems up to 10kW in size. The ASTRIS project especially targets development of a portable alkaline fuel cell with a 2.4kW power rating.
