Analog Devices Unveils ADuM240x Isolator Components

October 03, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Analog Devices Inc. (ADI, Wilmington, MA) unveiled a new set of digital isolator components that meet the insulation requirements of medical equipment, such as defibrillators and patient-monitoring devices. The ADuM240x component set increases the iCoupler products’ isolation rating from 2.5 kV to 5.0 kV, while still providing 10n times the data rate and timing accuracy of 5.0 kV-rated optocouplers.

In a single component, the ADuM240x iCoupler digital isolator products support high-speed data communications while meeting the insulation requirements of medical equipment, high-voltage industrial applications, power supplies, and other high-isolation environments. The ADuM240x family consists of three products, each with a different combination of forward and reverse channels to support the widest possible range of applications. Each is available in three performance grades supporting data rates of 1 Mbps, 10Mbps and 90 Mbps with timing accuracies for each data rate. All ADuM240x models carry a 5.0 kV isolation rating per UL1577, and are compliant with the medical safety standard IEC 60601-1.

Provided in 16-lead, wide-body, small outline integrated circuit (SOIC) packaging, the ADuM2400/ADuM2401/ADuM2402 products are sampling now and will be in full production in January 2005. The ADuM240x devices are priced per unit in 1,000-piece quantities at $3.45 for the ADuM240xARW (1 Mbps); $4.95 for the ADuM240xBRW (10 Mbps); and $5.95 for the ADuM240xCRW (90 Mbps).
