July 17, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Lithium Technology Corp. (LTC, Plymouth Meeting, PA) announced that it has been awarded a contract to produce prototype 42V batteries for the University of Minnesota Center for Distributed Robotics. Delivery is scheduled for August through September 2002.

The 3Ah, lithium-ion batteries will power 14 robots designed to operate as part of a coordinated fleet that pursues security targets and relays intelligence information to government, military or law-enforcement authorities, allowing intelligence-gathering without risking human lives in situations involving homeland or national security. In addition to robotics, these custom battery markets include commercial, industrial and military portable electronics as well as remote-controlled planes, medical devices and advanced camera equipment.
