August 01, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

The Industrial Systems division of General Electric Co. (Fairfield, CT) recently opened a new Asia regional headquarters in Shanghai. GE will introduce 25 new products, widen its product range, develop services, expand purchasing in China, and acquire Chinese companies that will help increase production capacity and product marketing, according to GE Global Vice President Richard Pease.

The industrial group would take a series of steps to expand business in China, which boasts market potential and worldwide opportunities since its entry into the World Trade Organization. The group is to set up offices in all major provinces and cities of China in the next three years. The group now manufactures more than 1,000 product lines, and its main products for China range from switches, motors and automatic controls to fire alarms, power systems and sensors.
