Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (San Jose, CA) announced plans to install a fuel cell power generator at its San Jose campus this fall. The 5 kW power plant is being produced by Ion America Corp. (Mountain View, CA), located at Moffett Field; Cypress is a minority investor in Ion America. The Cypress installation will be a demonstration project for investors and potential customers alike to see the feasibility of the product.
"This will be the fruits of a 50-year (industry) goal to develop cheap, clean energy source," stated Ion America Sales and Marketing Vice President Pashu Gopalan. "We're not there yet, but we think we are very close. If we make it, it is the holy grail of energy."
