duty cycle is basically the measure of on time vs off time. output voltage by input voltage give you efficiency. duty cycle give you the percentage of power use.

power converter work on the bases of duty cycle. 50% duty cycle means half of the time it will be in on position and half of the in off position. at no load condition its duty cycles goes zero.
