Heraeus Electronics, a leading provider of material solutions for the semiconductor industry and electronic packaging industry and Toshiba Materials intend to develop metal-ceramic substrates made of silicon nitride (Si3N4) and produce. These are used in important and most demanding tasks of high-power electronics and should cover for hybrid and electric vehicles, the growing demand for efficient, inexpensive and reliable power electronic components.

Metal-ceramic substrates made of silicon nitride have excellent thermal conductivity and excellent mechanical properties. Therefore, these are used in particular in power modules for heat dissipation and insulation.

Both companies contribute their considerable expertise in a ceramic substrate production, the combination of metal and ceramic, structuring and surface finishing as well as the distribution for better supply of the market. Toshiba material provides thereby the metal-ceramic substrates are available, the structured and from Heraeus Electronics depending on customer requirements to be finalized. Toshiba material continues to be finalized substrates in established markets.

"The European market demands extremely reliable and functional ceramic substrates and we are convinced that silicon nitride is a forward-looking solution," said Takao Shirai, Director of Toshiba material. "Europe is very environmentally conscious and an important industrial center for motor vehicles and power modules. For this reason, we see great market potential for highly reliable and highly functional metal ceramic substrates made of silicon nitride, especially in the European and Japanese markets. "

"The cooperation with Toshiba material expands our product portfolio for Condura metal-ceramic substrates and enables us to offer Condura.prime especially as a product for mission-critical applications," says Dr. Klemens Brunner, Director of Heraeus Electronics. "This allows us to introduce new solutions more quickly into the market, be more agile and respond more quickly to trends." The Japanese technology company Toshiba material benefits from a global customer base and the local customer of Heraeus Electronics.
