Do I need resistor when connecting battery and electromagnet? And will the battery discharge at the maximum discharge rate without the resistor?

 

Can you give more information on the amps you have to work with?

 

18650 lithium ion battery discharge at the maximum discharge rate?

 

Depending on the wire, it would either burn out -or- the battery might explode. That's a pretty extreme possibility though
